The star skipped the scheduled press junket for the upcoming roller derby movie, which stars Oscar-nominated actress Ellen Page and hip-hop star Eve, at the Canadian festival over the weekend. Barrymore blamed a sore throat for the absence, but sources tell The New York Post the actress was feeling ill after partying too hard at the star-studded festival earlier in the week.

“They had a press junket for Whip It at the Park Hyatt, and Drew completely bailed. The reason she cancelled is supposedly because she lost her voice.”

Drew and Adrian met for a meal at the Cliff’s Edge Restaurant in Los Angeles over the weekend, sparking speculation that the former child star has once again split from her He’s Just Not That Into You co-star.

“Drew and Adrian looked really comfortable with each other – Justin certainly seemed like the last thing on her mind,” says a spywitness.

Now that Drew’s all grown up, the Grey Gardens actress and her former director Steven Spielberg are reportedly in discussions to bring the classic box office blockbuster back to Earth in a new big budget Hollywood sequel, 27 years after it first warmed our hearts.

In 1982, a six-year-old Drew cemented her place in child star history with her performance as Gertie, a precocious little girl who joins the rest of her family in befriending an alien visitor from out of space.

According to movie industry big mouths, Drew and Steven have met to discuss the project, which will feature E.T. returning to Earth to rejoin the now-adult Gertie in E.T. 2.

Speaking to The National Enquirer, a unidentified tipster says: “Steven and Drew are being very secretive about this baby. But they want to do this project and work together. Steven has an incredible story in mind for the sequel that will bring E.T. back to earth.”

Let’s hope this isn’t true. E.T. was cinematic genius at its finest. That kind of perfection shouldn’t be tampered with.

The beloved star, who celebrated her 34th birthday in February, says playing Little Edie Bouvier Beale, Jackie O’s reclusive first cousin, who goes from socialite to living with her mother in a deteriorating house, made her take inventory of her own life.

“I’m freaked out about how fast time is going,” Drew says in the May 2009 issue of Elle Magazine. “Now I get why adults are always so encouraging to young people – like, ‘Enjoy it! It’s magic!’ I’m in my thirties now, and I really want to try all the things that I haven’t gotten to do yet, like directing, and doing a drama. I’ve produced and gotten to do a lot of optimistic love stories, and that was so where I was at for 10 years in my life. And now I feel like, Okay, now I know how to do that. I wanted to get scared again.”

On preparing for the role of Grey Gardens’ Little Edie: “I did what I do when I have a big challenge lying in my path. I go to school. I shut the windows, the shades come down, the phone gets turned off, I don’t go out – I study.”

On completely transforming for the role: “I knew this was not a courtesy meeting, but not far from it. I didn’t want to come in there like a hungry freak. But I also felt every second counting. So – polite conversation, then he started looking through my binder, and I saw his demeanor change, actually noticing all the hard work I had put into it. So I just put it out there. I said, ‘Look – I have all of this inside of me, and I promise you that I will change my face to be her. I will learn how to stop talking out of the side of my mouth. I will go to school to relearn body language. I will shut out the world. I will not talk to my friends. I will give up my life for this, because I don’t think you can play this character and have a social life and balance the two mentalities. I won’t act. I’ll become this person.’”

The beloved Drew portrays “Little” Edie Bouvier Beale in the feature.

“I felt I had to isolate myself,” Drew says in an interview with the May issue of Gotham Magazine. “It was really painful for me not to have contact with the people I love. I felt like it would be fraudulent to talk on a cell phone — ‘Like, yeah, I’ll call you back in a second’ — and walk back on set and pretend I’m this person who wouldn’t even know what a cell phone was.”

Drew found herself the perfect fit play Little Edie. After all, the former child star has triumphed over life’s adversities many times herself: “I try to realize what and who’s important. What’s important is being good to people I love and earning their respect and being available to them physically and emotionally. That’s my biggest and only priority, and the rest of it you just can’t control.”

Grey Gardens airs April 19 on HBO.

Drew Barrymore has reportedly rekindled her romance with ex-boyfriend Justin Long after the pair were spotted kissing and smooching at Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles last Thursday night.

“They couldn’t get enough of each other,” says a spy. “I don’t think they even noticed that there were other people in the room! In between kisses it was all smiles and laughs.”

W Magazine covergirl Drew Barrymore really is being considered to direct the third Twilight film, Eclipse.

The 34-year-old Charlie’s Angels star confirmed the news in a recent interview, saying, “I’m one of the directors that is being talked about, which is great, because I’m a director now. But you know, they’ll make their choice.”

According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, actress Drew Barrymore is one of a “select group” of possible directors who could step behind the camera for Eclipse, the third film in the Twilight Saga, scheduled for release in 2010.

The former child star just wrapped up her directorial debut, Whip It!.

In case you didn’t know, Drew’s status as a two-time divorcee qualifies her as a relationship guru.

The beauties became close after co-starring in the romantic comedy He’s Just Not That Into You.

Drew is urging Jen to boot Mayer because she is convinced the “Clarity” star is simply using Aniston to further his career.

According to an Enquirer source:

“Drew told Jen she could do way better and she’d be a fool to settle for him. The first time Jen introduced twice-divorced Drew to John, they clashed.”

The insider adds, “They bickered for so long that Jen had to step in and change the subject. And even though Jen is crazy in love with John, I think a part of her is worried that Drew may be right.”
