DJ AM, whose music could be heard on albums by Madonna, Babyface, Papa Roach and Will Smith, was found dead in his Manhattan apartment on Friday. He was 36. Goldstein and Blink 182 drummer Barker suffered serious burns and were hospitalized in critical condition after the Learjet they were traveling on crashed last Sept. The celebrity spinner battled crack addiction and obesity in his 20s, but was believed to have been clean for more than a decade.

“It very slowly and subtly reawakens addiction. I’m not saying it was inappropriately prescribed, I’m saying he didn’t know the risks,” Dr. Drew told The Associated Press Saturday.

According to The AP, pain medication was prescribed to the disc jockey following two skin graft surgeries he underwent as part of his recovery from a tragic plane crash last year. New York City police officers called to Goldstein’s seventh floor Lafayette Street apartment Friday evening found a crack pipe and prescription pills near the DJ’s body.

DJ AM was putting the finishing touches to an MTV reality series about drug abuse and intervention when he died.

The 22-year-old’s well-documented troubles with drugs and alcohol spurred Dr. Drew to comment on the actress in last week’s issue of Parade Magazine – much to Lindsay’s chagrin.

“I’m really convinced that something horrible is going to have to happen to her before she really gets over it and embraces sobriety,” Drew said of Lindsay. “She needs to give it up. And it’s going to be a while before she does. I have this image that she’s going to lose a limb or something before she does.”

Lindsay later hit back at the television doc with a short blurp on her Twitter page.

In an article with Parade.com last Thursday, Dr. Drew expressed concern for Lindsay’s well-documented personal and professional struggles– remarking that great tragedy awaits the former child star if she fails to get a handle on her personal life.

“I’m convinced that she’ll get sober one day,” he said. “But I’m afraid that between now and then, she may get a nearly mortal wound of some type. I’m really convinced that something horrible is going to have to happen to her before she really gets over it and embraces sobriety. She needs to give it up. I have this image that she’s going to lose a limb….”

On Friday, Lohan took to her Official Twitter page in a personal blast directed at the TV doc:

“I thought REAL doctors talk to patients in offices behind closed doors,” she Tweeted. “Am I wrong? Hmmmmm. I think NOT! Yay!”

A third season of VH1’s Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew is underway and we’ve the inside track on the celebrity cast members who will battling addictions live from the Pasadena Recovery Center.

According to Entertainment Tonight, celebrities joining Season 3 of VH1’s Celebrity Rehab include ’70s child star Mackenzie Phillips, former NBA player Dennis Rodman, suicidal country singer Mindy McCready, actor Mike Starr, Real World: Hollywood cast member Joey Kovar, America’s Next Top Model contestant Lisa D’Amato, former Miss Teen USA Kari Ann Peniche, and former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss.

Season 3 of Celebrity Rehab will premiere on VH1 this summer.

Dr. Drew is working on a sex addict rehab show for VH1.

Oh boy.

Addiction specialist turned VH1 reality star Dr. Drew dropped into Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday to promote Sober House and his latest literary effort, The Mirror Effect.

During an interview with The TODAY Show Tuesday, Dr. Drew Pinsky chatted about the second season of his VH1 reality series, Celebrity Rehab, which helps Z-list celebrities battle substance abuse addiction.

Each half-hour episode of Sex … With Mom and Dad will feature the star of VH1’s Celebrity Rehab helping a teen and their parents work through their problems discussing sex, dating and relationships.

MTV has ordered 20 episodes of the series.

This isn’t Dr. Drew’s first venture with MTV. In 1996, psychologist hosted a short-lived television version of his long-running radio program Loveline for the music network.

Oh Good Grief! VH1 is considering launching a spinoff of its substance abuse reality series Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. The new show, working under the title Sober Living, would place alumni from the first season of Celebrity Rehab together in a Beverly Hills mansion for one month as cameras follow their first struggles at living free of addiction.

Filming on the show could begin as early as next week, although VH1 has yet to give the project a thumbs up, according to the New York Post.

Former Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler, model/actress Amber Smith and last season’s resident, Seth “Shifty” Binzer the lead singer of the rock band, Crazytown are the first former Rehabbers approached to appear on the possible spinoff.

“Dr. Drew meant no harm to Mr. Cruise and apologizes if his comments were hurtful,” Pinsky’s rep said in a statement.

The Cruise camp woke up steaming over Dr. Drew’s declaration in the July 2008 issue of Playboy Magazine that Cruise’s extreme Scientology beliefs could be a result of childhood “neglect:”

“A lot of people in the public eye who behave strangely have mental illness we can learn from, and much of it is based on childhood trauma, without a doubt. Take a guy like Tom Cruise. Why would somebody be drawn into a cultish kind of environment like Scientology? To me, that’s a function of a very deep emptiness and suggests serious neglect in childhood – maybe some abuse, but mostly neglect.”

Tom’s lawyer, Bert Fields, fired back in statement that compared Pinsky to a Nazi: “This unqualified television performer who is obviously just looking for notoriety is so grotesquely unprofessional as to pretend to diagnose Tom and others without ever meeting them. He seems to be spewing the absurdity that all Scientologists are mentally ill. The last time we heard garbage like this was from Joseph Goebbels.”
