ABC has snapped up Sonny With a Chance starlet Demi Lovato for her first televised interview since a three month stint in rehab last fall. In an interview with Robin Roberts that will air on Good Morning America and 20/20 Friday, April 22, Lovato will divulge the deets on the depression and eating disorder that drove her to attack a backup dancer in a fit of rage last October, the catalyst that ultimately prompted her to seek therapy in an in-patient treatment center outside Chicago.
“10 days until my GMA and 20/20 interview.. The 20/20 one will be more in depth.. I’m so excited to REALLY share my story with you all…” the singer/actress Tweeted in a message to her fans on Tuesday.
Demi Lovato is speaking out for the first time about a period she refers to as “the darkest time of my life:” The three months she spent in an Illinois rehabilitation center after attacking a backup dancer in a fit of rage last fall.
The formerly clean-cut Camp Rock star stunned Goss Watchers when she quit the Jonas Brothers Tour in late October “to seek medical treatment for emotional and physical issues she has dealt with for some time,” the teen’s rep told reporters at the time. The identity of said “emotional and physical issues” are anyone’s guess, but Demi had prompted suspicions that she was a “cutter” suffering from an eating disorder long before she sought treatment.
We hear Disney starlet Demi Lovato will leave the suburban Illinois treatment center where she has been rehabbing since last fall early next week. The Sonny With a Chance actress has been under the watchful eye of professional since suffering a violent emotional breakdown last October. Demi only recently reached a financial settlement with the backup dancer that she savagely attacked on her tour bus last year. She’s expected to enter outpatient treatment on Feb. 1.
