In a statement to Asylum on Tuesday, comedian David Spade reacted to the negative backlash that has accompanied his new DirecTV ad featuring deceased actor Chris Farley. βWhen Direct TV came to me and the Farley family with this idea about Tommy Boy, we talked and thought it would be a cool way to remind people just how funny Chris was,β David says in response to criticism claiming he’s selling out his late friend’s memory. βIt is a clever homage to my friend and a movie that we loved doing.β
David Spade is one Hollywood star who still remembers that the holidays are really all about the spirit of giving. And with that spirit in mind, after hearing that some local cops had to pay for their guns out of their own pockets, the Rules of Engagement star opened up his wallet and donated $100,000 to the Phoenix Police Department to go toward the purchase of about 50 AR-15 rifles.
“These guys need to be able to do their jobs, and I am just happy I could help,” David, who grew up in Scottsdale and graduated from Arizona State University, said in a statment Monday.
A police spokesman said the department was very grateful for the helping hand.

Earlier this week, a source close to the dynamic duo Heather Locklear and David Spade confided to PEOPLE magazine that the couple were taking a break from their relationship.
“Heather is still going through a lot with Denise [Richards] and Richie [Sambora],” the source said. “They are still friends. It’s not ugly.”
Another source claims the break was a mutual decision between the couple, and that it was the best decision for the both of them.
While the pair have been spotted cuddling, holding hands, and kissing in public over the last few months, the duo have never publicly spoken about their relationship.
A month after Locklear filed for divorce from Richie Sambora, Locklear and Spade were spotted smooching at an afterparty for Spade’s Showbiz Show in March.
