Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson has made a name for himself by poking fun at celebs making tabloid-esque headlines. However, the British-born comic is choosing his words wisely when discussing the sex blackmail scandal surrounding David Letterman. As the host of the CBS Late Late Show, Craig follows Letterman’s Late Show. Dave also Craig’s boss, since his production company produces the Late Late Show.
Ferguson pointed out his awkward position in Monday’s preshow monologue, asking the audience to “put yourself in my position.”
“The person you work for, the person you admire and respect, is caught in an embarrassing situation. And your job is to be funny about that, whilst trying to keep your own job..So this is my last show,” he joked.
Disgraced unnyman of late night David Letterman used a portion of last night’s Late Show to extend an apology to his wife Regina and series staff after last week’s bombshell revelation that comedian has had sexual relationships with staffers over the years.
During a Late Show taping yesterday, Dave publicly apologized to his wife for cheating on her before they were married.
Monday’s taping was Letterman’s first since announcing a $2 million attempt to extort him with info over the staff sex secrets last Thursday.
What do you think of this apology, guys? Is he sincere?
“I’m terribly sorry that I put the staff in that position. Inadvertently, I just wasn’t thinking ahead. And, moreover, the staff here has been wonderfully supportive to me, not just through this furor, but through all the years that we’ve been on television and especially all the years here at CBS, so, again, my thanks to the staff for, once again, putting up with something stupid I’ve gotten myself involved in,” the 62-year-old said Monday.
“Now the other thing is my wife, Regina. She has been horribly hurt by my behavior, and when something happens like that, if you hurt a person and it’s your responsibility, you try to fix it. And at that point, there’s only two things that can happen: either you’re going to make some progress and get it fixed, or you’re going to fall short and perhaps not get it fixed, so let me tell you folks, I got my work cut out for me.”
David Letterman apologized to his wife on Monday’s taping for Late Show. The usually jovial late night host has vowed to repair his relationship with his wife of seven months, Regina Lasko — who Letterman says has been “horribly hurt by my behavior.”
Dave and Regina have been dating since 1986 and have a five-year-old son together. The couple finally wed in March.
Monday’s show was the first taped by Letterman since Thursday, when he disclosed that he had had affairs with women who worked for him; at least two on-staff girlfriends have been identified as former Late Show interns Stephanie Birkitt and Holly Hester. The bombshell hit Dave head-on after 48 Hours producer Robert Halderman allegedly blackmailed him with the info to the tune of $2 million. Read the rest of this entry »
Extortion by check? Not likely. A defense lawyer for the CBS News producer charged with trying to extort $2 million from David Letterman is calling the Late Show host “a master at manipulating audiences.”
Attorney Gerald Shargel defended Robert J. “Joe” Halderman on Monday, telling morning show hosts on The TODAY Show and The Early Show that if CBS producer Robert (Joe) Halderman intended to blackmail David Letterman about his sex life with staffers, he would have demanded cash — not a $2 million check.
On The Jay Leno Show Friday, the former Tonight Show host couldn’t help cracking a joke about the $2 million blackmail bombshell against one-time rival David Letterman.
“If you came here tonight for sex with a talk show host, you’ve got the wrong studio,” Leno said, starting his monologue.
“What is going on? First Conan hits his head, and then somebody tried to extort money from Letterman,” he asked. “I’m so glad I’m out of late night,” Leno quipped. “I’m happy to say that I’ve never had a sexual relationship with any of my staff members.”
The CBS News producer accused of trying to extort $2 million from David Letterman is free after posting $200,000 bail — but although Robert “Joe” Halderman is back on the street, he still has to stay away from Dave. Judge Michael Melkonian has issued a temporary order of protection requiring Halderman to keep away distance from the Late Show host.
On Friday, Halderman — who is accused of blackmailing Dave with secrets about his sex life with staffers — entered a plea of not guilty on one felony count of attempted grand larceny in the first degree.
Stephanie Birkitt is heavily in the news right now as David Letterman’s former mistress, and naturally everyone’s wondering what she looks like. We here at PopCrunch managed to dig up these pics of Birkitt, as well as a couple of videos. Birkitt worked her way up on the Late Show, starting as an intern, and eventually appearing occasionally on the show to do things like cover the Winter Olympics and perform in skits. According to Gawker, David Letterman had sex with as many as five female assistants who have worked behind the scenes of CBS’s Late Show over the past decade. Each girl had two things in common: they were young and beautiful. That wouldn’t be so bad if the comedian hadn’t been dating wife Regina Lasko — who he finally wed in March — since 1986! Say it ain’t so, Dave…
The comedian’s first alleged “Buss It Baby” is Stephanie Birkitt, the sometimes girlfriend of alleged extortionist Robert Halderman. Stephanie, who until recently lived with Halderman, once worked as an assistant to Letterman. In fact, Dave paid for her graduate degree at Yeshiva University Law School. And this is how she repays him? In the words of Stephanie Tanner, “How rude!”
Stephanie often made guest appearances on the show. Here’s a clip.
Robert “Joe” Halderman, a CBS producer accused of trying to extort $2 million from comedian David Letterman, pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of attempted grand larceny in the first degree in a New York City court on Friday, The Associated Press reported Friday.
Halderman, a producer for CBS’ crime investigation newsmagazine 48 Hours, is accused of threatening to out the 62-year-old Late Show host’s history of having sex with staffers unless he forked over the dough. According to a search warrant obtained by Fox 5 NY on Friday, Halderman is the former boyfriend of Dave’s ex assistant Stephanie Birkett. Read the rest of this entry »
