Baywatch star David Hasselhoff has compared himself to drug-addled singer Amy Winehouse, saying that their pair share an addiction to alcohol that is “a universal problem.”
The singer/actor was admitted to rehab last month amid reports he accidentally hit a doctor during a booze binge. The Hoff has also been hospitalized on two separate occasions this year suffering from alcohol poisoning.
The star now acknowledges he has a drinking problem.
“The problem that I’ve experienced in my own life and some of the stuff that’s been documented about Amy is a universal problem. It’s an illness. You don’t wake up in the morning and decide to have this problem.”
A new reality show is washing ashore for former Baywatch star David Hasselhoff.
David is discussion on a deal to star in his own A&E reality show with teen daughters, Hayley and Taylor, TMZ reported on Monday.
“We are discussing a possibility of doing a documentary series with David and his kids,” an A&E rep confirmed this afternoon. Guess that means lots of drunk-dialing and trips to the ER are on the way…..
News of a Hasselhoff reality series first hit the blogosphere last week, when the actor’s youngest daughter, Hayley, Tweeted the following post on the popular micro-blogging site: “The Hasselhoffs signed the deal with A&E ….. Get readdyy for it.”
It seems an ear infection, and not booze, that sent The Hoff to the hospital last night.

Early Monday, TMZ reported that actor and America’s Got Talent judge David Hasselhoff was being treated in a Los Angeles-area hospital after a night of druken antics left him ill with alcohol poisoning. The site now claims that David was being treated by his family doctor for an ear infection — and was taking Antivert for vertigo caused by the ear problem. He was also taking Antabuse, an oral prescription that prevents alcoholics from drinking. The combination of drugs messed up his equilibrium, which caused him to visit the emergency room.
He was released from the hospital one hour after being admitted.
David Hasselhoff was rushed to hospital on Sunday night suffering from alcohol poisoning, TMZ.com reported early Monday.
On Sunday, the actor’s 17-year-old daughter Hayley discovered the Knight Rider star “extremely drunk” in the family’s Encino, California home and immediately called her mother Pamela — who went through a nasty divorce with The Hoff several years ago.
Pamela called paramedics, who arrived at the property and transported Hasselhoff to the hospital, where he is still undergoing treatment.
The star’s addiction to alchohol was first exposed in 2007, when home video footage of the star in a drunken state and eating hamburger off the floor leaked onto the internet. In 2007, Hasselhoff was alleged hospitalized with alcohol poisoning, although his spokesperson dismissed the reports, insisting the incident was not serious.
David Hasselhoff took off his judge’s hat and took to the stage to strut his stuff during a performance of the 1965 tune “Feelin’ Good” on America’s Got Talent Wednesday night.
“He acts, he sings, he dances and he also talks a lot on this show. With a Hofftastic performance of ‘Feelin’ Good,’ give it up for David Hasselhoff!” host Nick Cannon gushed before inviting The Hoff to the stage.
