Adam Cook, the older brother of American Idol Season 7 champion David Cook, has died.

Adam lost his ten year battle with brain cancer in Terre Haute, Indiana early Sunday, according to KansasCity.com.

He was 36.

David Cook, a native of Blue Springs, was on a jet en route to Terre Haute when his brother passed away.

“Adam passed away peacefully. He was surrounded by his family, including his wife, Kendra, his children, his father and his stepmom, among others,” a family friend said in a statement Sunday.

“The family thought that Adam would go much sooner than this, actually….That’s why David left his tour a few weeks back so that he could be with Adam. They said their goodbyes then.”

Reigning American Idol champ David Cook will return to the stage on the Idol Results Show next–and he’ll have company.

On April 1, David will perform his new single “Come Back to Me,” while dance track hitmaker Lady Gaga will perform her hit song “Poker Face.”

American Idol 7 champ David Cook has sent a message to fans who get a little too close for comfort: “Back up and back off!”

David is apparently getting a little overwhelmed by overly aggressive fans and has issued a plea for privacy while on tour in support of his self-titled debut album. The champ has warned that if the unruly behavior continues, he’s prepared to implement strict security measures that could adversely affect all of his fans.

On Sunday, the musician took to his Celebrity MySpace blog to plea with to overzealous fans in a post entitled “Attention!”

“First off, I want to say thank you to everyone who has been coming out to the shows since my last post. The vibe at these shows has been amazing. Secondly, I have to address some behavior that has become disturbing,” David wrote. “We pride ourselves on being accessible to you as fans, but in contrast, we do enjoy what little privacy we can muster. To that end, the efforts by some fans to find our hotel rooms, call our hotel rooms, attach things to our bus, etc., is something I have to condemn.”

He added, “This relationship only works when it remains healthy for both parties, and should this behavior continue, the only thing we can do is take more preventative measures to maintain our privacy, which in turn makes us less accessible to you.”

David concludes the post by saying, “I hope this doesn’t come off as harsh. I merely want to nip this in the bud so we can continue to have a great experience with all of you at the shows we have coming up. Take care and see you at the next show.”

David Cook is embarking on his first-ever solo tour, The Declaration Tour 2009, in support of his self-titled debut album, which was released last November.

“I’m more than excited to hop on the road and support this record. This tour represents both a new beginning and a return to form for me,” David says. “It’s our first full tour, and we’re all ready to pour whatever blood, sweat, and tears that we can muster into making this show, and every show from here on out, an experience. Part of that experience is bringing back this college tour idea. There’s something inherently nostalgic about playing college shows. So many amazing acts used to do it, so it’s nice to be able to bring that ideal back, in some small way. And besides, touring on a bus beats what we used to do, which was cram five guys into a seven passenger van for one show, 13 hours away… “

The tour launches in Tallahassee, FL on Feb. 13 and will continue through April 25, crisscrossing across the U.S. at various college campus and arenas.

David Cook is single again.

According to a tattle close to the American Idol Season 7 winner, David and fellow Idol alumni, Kimberly Caldwell, have called it quits after less than a year of dating.

“Kimberly and David ended their relationship just before the holidays,” Caldwell’s rep tells In Touch. “The couple remain good friends and, being very private people, appreciate their privacy at this time.”

David and Kimberly, both 26, began seeing each other not long after he won American Idol in the Spring of 2008.

In other A.I. news, Season 8 of Idol returns on Tuesday night at 8/7c on FOX.

According to a report featured in this week’s issue of Star Magazine, David plans to pop the question over the holidays, and the crooning Texan has his heart set on presenting Kimberly with an extravagant 2-carat diamond and platinum ring from Tiffany’s to seal the deal.

Asking price on the ring? $54,000.

“He’s not used to spending that kind of money on jewelry, so he needs to give it some thought.”

David and Kimberly, both 26, have been dating since May.
