Eighties pop star Cyndi Lauper teamed up with femcee Lil Kim for a duet performance of Cyndi’s smash classic “Time After Time” at the 91st birthday concert for former South African president Nelson Mandela. The Nelson Mandela Foundation and 46664 hosted the headliner event at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall on Saturday, July 18.

France’s first lady Carla Bruni, soul legend Aretha Franklin, rocker Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys, and Stevie Wonder were other notables present at yesterday’s celebration.

In a Friday afternoon entry, entitled “Hope,” posted on her Official Myspace Blog, Cyndi says: I believe we are at a crossroads and the next ten years will determine the future of this country. Like I said from the stage, this is not voting for the American Idol, it is much more important, this is voting for the American President. And now that I’m home again, and off stage, I wonder, will we become the country that respects the diversity that is our backbone or will we continue down this path of the few ruling the many? I wonder to myself are we gonna make that change in a big way and when I think about it I believe that the change can happen in the form of Senator Barack Obama.

Eighties pop icon Cyndi Lauper will appear as a special guest on As The World Turns Thursday, July 3rd. The “She Bop” hitmaker takes center stage to perform her signature ballad “True Colors” as the long-running CBS daytime drama celebrates Gay Pride in the fictional city of Oakdale.

Cyndi’s ATWT appearance will also feature a live rendition of the singer’s latest dance track “Into the Nightlife.”

“These two, they’re in love with each other,” she says, “and I’m proud to be included. I’m going to dedicate ‘True Colors’ to them because ‘True Colors’ is a love song.”

News, promoters for Cyndi’s 2nd Annual True Colors Tour for Gay Rights are trying to secure the Britster for a few performances on the twenty-four city North American tour, kicking off on May 30th.
