Cindy McCain is taking part in the NOH8 campaign for marriage equality.

The beer heiress and wife of former presidential candidate Sen. John McCain joins the dozens of celebrities lending their star power to the campaign protesting California’s Proposition 8 ban against same-sex marriage. Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, The Kardashians, Kim Zolciak, Lala Vazquez, and the McCains’ soft-Republican daughter Meghan are among the stars who have posed for NOH8.

“Although we had worked with [Cindy and John's daughter] Meghan McCain before and were aware of her own position, we’d never really thought the cause might be something her mother would get behind,” a statement on the NOH8 website reads. “We have a huge amount of respect for both of these women for being brave enough to make it known they support equal marriage rights for all Americans.”

The former GOP candidate for president was a guest on Larry King Live Thursday night, and he told the talk show host that although they talked about it, Cindy McCain will not be a contestant on the ballroom dance-centered series.

“Well, we discussed it. But we decided it just was not a good idea,” says McCain, who pointed out that his beer heiress wife has undergone knee replacement surgery.

“It would have been very challenging. But I’m proud of her work and charity around the world, Operation Smile, a number of other organizations — humanitarian efforts that she’s involved in and is continuing to be involved in.”

Citing a “well-placed source,” the tabloid publication claims Sen. McCain “put the kibosh on” Mrs. McCain’s possible casting this week.

So the Palin kid is being celebrated for making a choice while the Senator from Arizona and the Alaskan governor try to take that right-the right to choose- away from every other woman in America. I guess reproductive freedom is a special privilege reserved only for the wayward daughters of Republicans.
