In May, The Alphabet Network announced that the series was among the casualities being dumped from the network schedule — axed after two seasons due to budget cuts.

In an interview Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Donald Todd said that the cast and crew cannot understand the reasons behind ABC’s move.

“Sadly, ABC’s strategy to get new viewers – by taking the show off the air for months at a time – did not pan out, and they have no further plans for us,” he explained.

“The producers, and Christina, remain baffled by the whole thing. As viewers can see in the final episodes airing now, we were heading in a great direction; the calls and e-mails about those episodes are both gratifying and painful.”

Christina Applegate is pushing an online petition to bring her ABC comedy back from the dead. Last week, The Alphabet Network brought down the axe on Samantha Who? after a season of low ratings and fans are coming up with innovative ways to have their voices heard by the network.

Christina — who fought breast cancer while working on the show last year — has posted a link to the petition on her Twitter various times this weekend; she’s hoping to convince ABC executives to bring Samantha back for another season.

“I want 10,000 signatures by Monday. Am I being greedy?” she writes on her page.

Samantha Who? began airing on Monday nights — after Dancing With The Stars — in 2007. It was a ratings success. After scheduling changes, the ratings began to suffer. Some fans have noted that they were not aware of the show’s change to Thursday nights, due to ABC’s lack of promotion.

The petition will be sent to ABC Studios. It currently has nearly 2,500 signatures.

Great news, children of the ’80s. Christina Applegate and Anna Faris are top contenders to lend their voices to two of the three Chipettes in the upcoming Alvin And The Chipmunks sequel.

Justin Long, who will reprise his lead role as Dave Seville in Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel later this year, tells MTV that Anna, star of the 2008 film The House Bunny, and Christina, of Samantha Who? fame, have expressed interest in portraying the Chipmunks female counterparts, singing sisters Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor in the new movie.

“Anna Faris called me. I hadn’t talked to her in a while, and I was like: ‘Hey, what’s up?’ She said ‘You’re doing the Squeakquel!’ and then something happened and we couldn’t talk anymore. So, I’m pretty sure she’s doing it,” Justin told MTV News on Tuesday.

“I [also] heard Christina Applegate, and then there’s a third and I’m not quite sure who that is.”

The half-hour comedy starring actress Christina Applegate won’t be back next season, according to Variety. The trade magazine claims ABC canned the show due to economic reasons. The network was reportedly looking to cut $500,000 per episode and had considered switching from a single camera format to using multiple cameras, says a spy.

Christina — who successfully battled cancer while working on the sitcom — was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy for her role as Samantha in 2008.

The star of the popular ABC comedy Samantha Who? posed for a series of private nude photographs during a private ceremony at her home on the night of her surgery.

Christina had both breasts removed in a successful bid to treat her breast cancer.

“I did my first and last nudie photo shoot at home,” she revealed on Tuesday’s edition of The Oprah Winfrey Show. “I made sure that I have close-up photographs of them from every angle, so I can kind of remember them.”

Christina admits she secretly suspected she’d be diagnosed with cancer at some point because her mother is a two-time breast cancer survivor.

“I was just gonna let them (breasts) go… and then, when I met with my doctor and I told him that was my decision and he brought the surgeon in, it was like the floodgates just opened up and I lost it.”
