Christina Applegate is said to be “baffled” by ABC’s decision to pull the plug on her quirky half-hour comedy Samantha Who?
In May, The Alphabet Network announced that the series was among the casualities being dumped from the network schedule — axed after two seasons due to budget cuts.
In an interview Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Donald Todd said that the cast and crew cannot understand the reasons behind ABC’s move.
“Sadly, ABC’s strategy to get new viewers – by taking the show off the air for months at a time – did not pan out, and they have no further plans for us,” he explained.
“The producers, and Christina, remain baffled by the whole thing. As viewers can see in the final episodes airing now, we were heading in a great direction; the calls and e-mails about those episodes are both gratifying and painful.”
Christina Applegate is pushing an online petition to bring her ABC comedy back from the dead. Last week, The Alphabet Network brought down the axe on Samantha Who? after a season of low ratings and fans are coming up with innovative ways to have their voices heard by the network.
Christina — who fought breast cancer while working on the show last year — has posted a link to the petition on her Twitter various times this weekend; she’s hoping to convince ABC executives to bring Samantha back for another season. Read the rest of this entry »

PEOPLE Magazine’s Julie Jordan stopped by The TODAY Show Wednesday to explain why editor’s chose cancer survivor Christina Applegate as 2009’s “Most Beautiful Person” for the issue’s annual “100 Most Beautiful” list, arriving on newsstands this Friday.
Christina Applegate was snapped smoking in Los Angeles yesterday. That wouldn’t be news, save for the fact that the Samantha Who? star was diagnosed with breast cancer last summer.
Christina had been a smoker for years but managed to kick the habit after undergoing a double mastectomy in 2008. Guess she’s back on the bandwagon…….and very foolishly, might we add.
