Get a load of the latest poster for Cher and Christina Aguilera’s highly-anticipated movie musical Burlesque.
In the film, Xtina plays a small town girl trying to make it big in the City of Angels under the guidance of a showbiz vet and cabaret owner portrayed by Cher in the film.
Faced with poor sales and rumored strife with her longtime label home, RCA, Christina Aguilera’s playing a “Dirrty” blame game — and Lady Gaga’s at the center!
The last time one of today’s pop stars sang one of Etta James’ songs (Beyonce performed “At Last” at President Obama’s inauguration in 2009) in public, the aging crooner threatened to “whoop her ass.” So we can’t help but wonder what Ms. Etta would think if she saw Christina Aguilera covering “Something’s Got A Hold On Me” in a scene from the upcoming movie musical Burlesque.
The sultry song was made popular by Etta in 1962.
Burlesque sings its way into theaters this November.
On Wednesday, the blogosphere got its first look at the acting debut of Christina Aguilera. The pop powerhouse will be sharing the silver screen with showbiz vets Cher and Stanley Tucci — as well as a supporting cast featuring Eric Dane, Cam Gigandet, Julianne Hough, Peter Gallagher, Alan Cumming, and Kristen Bell — in the Steven Antin-directed movie musical Burlesque, opening in theaters Nov. 24.
Burlesque follows the story of a small town girl from the School of the Hard Knocks vying to make it big in the City of Angels. She finds inspiration in club owner Tess (Cher) and a gay stage manager played by Tucci.
“The girl I play, Ali, has a rough past – her mother dies when she’s very young and she’s been in foster homes. I could relate to that pain, growing up in an abusive household,” Xtina explained earlier this year. “That gave me great motivation to provoke my tears for those scenes where I had to really pour it on. I felt it deeply, to go through a lot of those things that brought up a lot of painful memories,” she adds.
“It wasn’t just a girl who comes to L.A. and makes it big. It was a girl who had suffered and felt pain, been in seven foster homes. She doesn’t let her past make her a victim. And that to me was so appealing.”
