Let’s hope the Hasselbeck Haters didn’t get their hopes up” Barbara Walters kicked off Monday’s edition of The View by debunked reports that Elisabeth Hasselbeck is being ousted from the ABC talk show.
The right-winger sat quietly as Walters addressed what she called the “particularly false story that keeps getting picked up,” referring to Friday’s Us Weekly report, which quoted unnamed sources claiming Hasselbeck had been fired because her unpopular political views clash with the show’s largely liberal audience.
Not true, said Babs, who told the audience:
“The truth is, we love Elisabeth.I like her personally and she’s just a wonderful person. But beyond that, we value and appreciate her point her view. It’s important to us because Elisabeth helps give this show perspective and balance. And believe me, she’s tougher than she looks, [having to] sit here for a decade and take the kind of guff we give her.”

Things That Make You Go Ouch! “Brooke Shields broke her hand while getting ready to rehearse for her gig in a live show in Los Angeles last Friday.
“Brooke broke her hand during rehearsal for the musical ‘Leap of Faith,’” her representative told PEOPLE Magazine Saturday. “The cast will be off before previews on Sept. 11. It was a minor break and did not affect the production schedule.”
Leap of Faith opens Oct. 3 at the Ahmanson Theatre.

The former model and child star is facing a tax bill from Uncle Sam of nearly $11,000 after U.S. tax officials accused her of falling behind with her federal income taxes. According to TMZ.com, the IRS has filed a federal tax lien against the former Suddenly Susan actress, alledging Shields and her husband Chris Henchy owe $4,391.70 in unpaid taxes from 2004 and $5,932.50 from 2005.
