Boy George has been released from prison eleven months early. The 47-year-old former Culture Club singer – real name George O’Dowd – left Suffolk’s Edmunds Hill Prison Monday morning after serving just four months of his 15-month sentence for the false imprisonment and assault of male escort Audun Carlsen in 2007.

The New York City Department of Sanitation won’t be treated to a free concert courtesy of Boy George, after all. The State Department has denied the one-time Culture Club star a visa to enter the U.S because he is presently awaiting trial on false imprisonment charges in his native Britain. The singer had planned a thank-you show for the City of New York Department of Sanitation’s Family Day on August 17th. He performed community service for that department following a conviction for filing a false police report in 2006.
Boy George will play a free concert at the New York City Department of Sanitation’s Family Day Celebration on August 17th. In August 2006, the forty-five year-old former Culture Club singer was ordered to one week of community service for the city’s Sanitation Department after pleading guilty to falsely reporting a burglary at his lower Manhattan apartment.
