Avril Lavigne says she only hires brunette backup dancers because she insists on being the only blonde on stage when she performs live. Towhead hoofers are ordered to go brown, Avri explains.

“Everyone was brown, except one of my favorite girls was blonde so we were like, ‘You have to have brown hair.’ It wouldn’t look right,” Avril says.

“I wanted my girls to look really punk rock with like black hair and that’s pretty standard for everyone, like Madonna and Mariah Carey. If they’re blonde you’re not going to see another blonde on stage.”

It was one of the biggest hits of 2007 and now Avril Lavigne’s smash single “Girlfriend” is about to become the Most-Watched Video in YouTube History. The first single from Avril’s last LP, The Best Damn Thing, is less than a million viewers away from stealing Viewers’ Choice honors away from YouTube’s current Top Vid Evolution of Dance.

Soon you too can smell like Avril Lavigne; although we’re not sure why anyone would want to. The “Girlfriend” singer just signed a deal with Procter & Gamble Prestige Products to produce a fragrance debuting Fall 2009.
