Ashton Kutcher has become the first member of popular social networking site Twitter to gain over one million followers.
The actor officially crossed the one million mark, spanking rival CNN Breaking News shortly after 11 PM Pacific time. Streaming live from his home, Ashton received support from his wife Demi Moore, actress Soleil Moon Frye, and rap mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs via phone.
“Where’s the champagne, where’s the champagne,” Ashton said on his Ustream.TV web feed just before reaching his goal. “We’ve gotta pop the cork on this folks.”
CNN, which lost by less than 1,200 followers, quickly congratulated the star.
Earlier this week, Ashton wrote on his Twitter that if he won the war against CNN, he would donate 10,000 mosquito bed nets to charity for World Malaria Day.
It pays to have friends who Twitter. On Wednesday, Ashton Kutcher asked his massive Twitter fellowship to help reach out to his wife who was “half way across the world” by sending the Ghost actress thousands of good morning messages in what the actor referred to as a “love tsunami.”
