The singer-turned-actress landed a role as Violet Foster on the remake of the 1990s soap opera earlier this year, but was cut from the cast to make room from original series star Heather Locklear. Ashlee is now set to make her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart. And she’s already gotten plenty of practice; Ashlee first played Roxie on London’s West End in 2006.

Ashlee will begin her six-week Chicago stint in December.

Ashlee Simpson was reportedly kicked off The CW stinker Melrose Place because she’s — well — a non-acting diva, a disgruntled cast member divulged to FOX News on Tuesday.

Producers, desperate to save the sinking series, wanted Heather Locklear to reprise her role as tough PR exec Amanda Woodward, but couldn’t afford her salary demands without cutting someone.

“They basically trimmed the fat and made it possible for Heather to join the show. Heather is a much bigger name than Ashlee….”

“Bittersweet World” no longer: Ashlee Simpson-Wentz is giving up her recording career for her son. Celebrity insiders tell London’s The Mirror, the hoedown-dancing, “Pieces of Me” crooner has made the decision to hang up her mic and focus on her acting career for the sake of her son with hubby Pete Wentz.
The 25-year-old singer/actress — who was recently canned from the tepid television remake Melrose Place — feels only acting can give her the time to be with the 11-month-old Bronx.

“She’s reading scripts. Acting is her focus now. If she had an album, she’d have to tour and be away from Bronx. She wants consistency….”

We wonder how this is going to work out since most people who saw her on Melrose are emphatic that the girl couldn’t act her way out of a wet paper bag?

Heather Locklear doesn’t just play a bitch on TV. The primetime diva appeared on classic small screen smashes like T.J. Hooker, Dynasty, and Spin City. She also famously starred as icy PR vixen Amanda Woodward on the original Melrose Place in the 1990s. But we hear the seasoned actress got into the mother of all catfights with actress-singer Ashlee Simpson on the set of the of The CW’s Melrose revival, as a rivalry ensued over who would be the show’s official Queen Bee. When the dust settled, Heather was the last the woman standing, Star Magazine claims in its Nov. 9 issue.
