Rumor: Christmas has come early for singer/actress Ashlee Simpson-Wentz. Things are looking up for Broadway’s newest darling — who was unceremoniously axed from The CW’s Melrose Place just two months into the inaugural season — and she owes it all to Nicole Richie.
Nicole, a reformed wildchild-turned-devoted mom, recently announced plans to star in and produce a new television sitcom based on her life. Nicole’s first executive decision as series creator was casting bestie Ashlee, 25, in a supporting role on the show, according to a new report.
When life serves up lemons, create a clothing line! With her acting career — or lack thereof — on the skids, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz is reportedly hoping to follow in her big sister Jessica’s footsteps by lending her name to a new collection of women’s fashions.

Jessica has established herself as a respected designer with the introduction of her Jessica Simpson Collection — featuring an assortment of clothes, shoes, handbags, nightwear, and swimwear. Ashlee Wentz-Simpson has rebounded nicely after being unceremoniously booted from Melrose Place last month– the actress will reprise her role as Roxie Hart in Broadway’s Chicago, Access Hollywood has learned.

The singer-turned-actress landed a role as Violet Foster on the remake of the 1990s soap opera earlier this year, but was cut from the cast to make room from original series star Heather Locklear. Ashlee is now set to make her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart. And she’s already gotten plenty of practice; Ashlee first played Roxie on London’s West End in 2006.
Ashlee will begin her six-week Chicago stint in December.
Ashlee Simpson was reportedly kicked off The CW stinker Melrose Place because she’s — well — a non-acting diva, a disgruntled cast member divulged to FOX News on Tuesday.
“Ashlee was kicked off ‘Melrose Place’ because she was a total diva on set, late all the time, and deeply disliked by fellow cast members,” the loose-lipped informant blabbed. “It created a lot of discord among the cast. She could barely act,” the source said.

Producers, desperate to save the sinking series, wanted Heather Locklear to reprise her role as tough PR exec Amanda Woodward, but couldn’t afford her salary demands without cutting someone.
“They basically trimmed the fat and made it possible for Heather to join the show. Heather is a much bigger name than Ashlee….”
