Newly-released FBI files, obtained by The Associated Press, show the Bureau investigated Smith between 2000 and 2001 in a murder-for-hire plot targeting E. Pierce Marshall, who was at the center of a long legal fight to keep Smith, a former stripper from collecting J. Howard Marshall II’s estate. The younger Marshall has since died.

Prosecutors ultimately decided there wasn’t enough evidence to charge the Playboy Playmate — who ultimately died of a drug overdose in 2007 — with any crime.

“Smith adamantly denied ever contemplating such a crime,” an agent wrote. An April 26, 2001, letter to the FBI from Sally Meloch, an assistant U.S. attorney, said she reviewed the reports but “determined that there is insufficient evidence to establish that there was a murder-for-hire plot by Ms. Smith to kill Pierce Marshall.”

Anna Nicole Smith’s former companion Howard K. Stern and two doctors were charged Thursday with conspiracy to furnish Smith with drugs before she died in 2007 of an overdose.

The 40-year-old attorney was arrested in L.A. and booked. He was released on $20,000 bail.

The life and death of the Playboy Playmate will be made into an opera by British composer Mark-Anthony Turnage at London’s Covent Garden in 2011.

“It is not going to be a horrible, sleazy evening,” director Elaine Padmore, tells The Guardian. “It is going to be witty, clever, thoughtful and sad.”

“It is not just a documentary about her, but a parable about celebrity and what it does to people.”

Larry Birkhead spent nearly $3,000 on Anna Nicole Smith’s underwear over the weekend.

The photographer, who fathered a daughter, named Dannielynn, with Anna Nicole, purchased a pink bustier once wore by the late Playboy Playmate for $1,800 and a white negligee priced at $1,000 at a celebrity auction in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Larry claims he bought the items as heirlooms for the couple’s young daughter, stating that the purchases will help 1-year-old daughter Dannielynn learn her mother’s life story when she’s old enough.

“Playboy was such a big part of Anna’s career….You know, it’s not something I can show today, but something down the road…..It’s not going to be in any bedtime stories anytime soon.”

British playwright Richard Thomas, the brains behind Jerry Springer: The Opera, is collaborating with composer Mark-Anthony Turnage to turn the tragic life of Anna Nicole Smith into an on-stage extravaganza. The opera will be staged at the Royal Opera House in Britain.

“It’s an incredible story,” Thomas tells The Independent. “It’s very operatic and sad. She was quite a smart lady with the tragic flaw that she could not seem to get through life without a vat of prescription painkillers.”

“For me, it ends when she does. It’s an American story. I love American culture. Especially for opera, the stories seem to work on a grander, more epic scale. They seem more extreme — it’s a blessing and a curse.”

Anna Nicoel Smith died from an overdose of prescription drugs in Florida on Feb. 8, 2007. She was thirty-nine years old.

Anna Nicole Smith’s one year old daughter is cross-eyed, her father Larry Birkhead tells the press. Dannielynn, who has recently been rumored to be sporting an eyepatch, suffers from an eye condition known strabismus. The eyepatch is used to cover the strong eye in an effort to strengthen the weak one, but Dannielynn may have to undergo surgery.

“She has strabismus, which is a turning in of one of her eyes, and it’s something that we’ve been looking out for for a while,” Larry tells ET’s MARK STEINES. “I’ve been taking her to the doctors and … Anna had taken Dannielynn to the doctor [in the Bahamas] to see about it when she was just a few months old.”

“I got her a little pirate doll to show her that people wear patches, and it’s okay,” says Larry, “and daddy wears a patch if he has to to show her it’s okay. I’ve been really aggressive with the patch as much as I can be. At first she was really open to it and it didn’t really bother her. Now, she’s gotten a little smart because she can pull it off, so it’s a little bit harder for me to patch her.”

“I’m going to do everything to make sure that it’s corrected,” Larry says, “but having lost Anna and [her son] DANIEL and my dad — my dad just came out of a simple surgery and he died — it’s just tough for me to think about surgeries with [Dannielynn].”

“All of the opinions that I had [from doctors], every one of them said that it’s very, very unlikely, because no one knows one-hundred percent what causes [strabismus],” says Larry. “But I point-blank ask every single doctor, ‘Could any medications that Anna was on have caused this?’ and they said that it’s more likely that a genetic reason could have caused it.”

Yesterday, photographs of Anna Nicole and Dannielynn were posted on various Internet websites. These photographs are the property of the Estate of Anna Nicole Smith and were stolen from her camera shortly after her death. Big Moe denies selling the photographs but admits that he is distributing them. His misappropriation of Estate property is unlawful and his stated motives for doing so are not credible.

“The Estate shall pursue all available remedies against any individual or entity involved in the unauthorized distribution or publication of these, or any other, stolen photographs.”

A spokesperson for “Big Moe,” PAUL PORTER, says:

“After reading the statement of attorney L. Lin Wood we find it necessary to respond to a series of erroneous comments. Big Moe has never stolen anything, including a memory card shortly after the untimely death of Anna Nicole Smith. Claims of profiting from Anna Nicole’s death are equally disturbing. Big Moe would never seek to profit from the disturbing photographs on various Internet websites.
