Baywatch star David Hasselhoff has compared himself to drug-addled singer Amy Winehouse, saying that their pair share an addiction to alcohol that is “a universal problem.”
The singer/actor was admitted to rehab last month amid reports he accidentally hit a doctor during a booze binge. The Hoff has also been hospitalized on two separate occasions this year suffering from alcohol poisoning.
The star now acknowledges he has a drinking problem.
“The problem that I’ve experienced in my own life and some of the stuff that’s been documented about Amy is a universal problem. It’s an illness. You don’t wake up in the morning and decide to have this problem.”

Winehouse reportedly dropped $56,000 on new chest muscles earlier this month.
“I don’t know. I didn’t have to pay for it — that’s all I know,” Mitch explained. “Whenever I see her, she says, ‘Dad can you give me a couple of hundred.’ [But] I didn’t have to pay for the boobs. I don’t know.”

Amy Winehouse is heading stateside two years after marrying her ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil on the sandy surf of Miami, Florida.
The five-time Grammy Award winner will reportedly visit the Southern city to work on her forthcoming third album with Florida-based producer Salaam Remi. It is the first time Winehouse has been allowed to enter the United States since she was cleared of assaulting a fan last month.
A source tells The Sun: “Amy is looking forward to getting out to Miami again to finish the album with Salaam, as he was so good on Back To Black. It’s a place that means a lot to her and could really provide some inspiration for new material.”
Amy Winehouse is in the process of obtaining a work visa that will allow her to tour the United States two years after being banned from entering the nation due to pending criminal charges.
