
Last night was the infamous country night; the night that makes or breaks it for many Idol hopefuls. Martina McBride was their coach and seemed totally excited to be there. Now, I’m not a huge fan of contemporary country music, in fact I kinda hate it, so it’s always a challenge for me to review this genre each season. However, I’ve done my best to be objective and not let the cheesiness of country music taint my opinions of the Idols’ performances.

Let me just start off by saying I feel happy this morning. Finally, the voting-off process worked out the way I thought it should. For the most part, anyway. Sanjaya still wasn’t in the bottom 3, but whatever. He’s become an oddly entertaining novelty and that should wear off soon.
The show started off with a group performance of “Balamos,” which was okay, but whoever decided it was a good idea to pair up Haley and Sanjaya for a duet must have been playing a cruel joke, because neither of them were in tune for even a half-second. But at least Haley was wearing pants.
Then that Akon fella sang and I got confused for a minute. Wait, I thought it was J. Lo? Wasn’t he the dude who was singing with Gwen Stefani? His song is a number 1 hit? Why? It stinks and he’s not even cute. I guess since they made this results show a whole fucking hour long they had to fill it up with some shit.

Last night the Idol contestants took on a Latin vibe, coached by Jennifer Lopez. Who was looking quite beautiful and had a refreshingly friendly, comfy attitude for a superstar of her caliber. That’s nice to see, and even more rare. She really did seem like a regular gal, dishing out sound advice and joking around.
As for the Idols performances, they were kinda lame overall, with a few standouts.
Melinda Doolittle started things off with “Sway,” and did her best to convey the sexy vibe of the song, shimmying around the stage in an amazing black dress. She looked amazing, but Read the rest of this entry »
