There was no rest for the weary on Day One in Hollywood for American Idol 2007. Not much for us home-viewers either. I felt like this whole episode was rushed along, squeezed into the skimpy 1-hour time slot. I don’t know if my memory is fucking with me, but I think I remember last year being a little more involved. I hardly saw shit this season and now I feel kinda gypped. They choose the 24 tomorrow? Already? Fuck.
The show started off with the 114 girls, in groups of six, given 30 seconds to prove they should stay, and the judges didn’t waste any time thinning the herd. Name-dropper Jory, the snobby gal who met the Queen of England, was in the first group, looking quite confident in her too-small vest and puffy sleeved shirt a la Paula. Oh, they were all cut, all six. Too bad. But that’s okay because now Jory will have more time to hang out and have tea with her pal, the Queen.

So last night was the show that highlighted all the best and worst auditions that didn’t make the first cut. I’m not really sure why they bother doing this theme, because if they weren’t good enough for the first go round of episodes, why the hell would I be interested in seeing them now? Guess they gotta fill up another hour to showcase all those Ford and Coke commercials.
Anyhoo, the six of the additional Best were nice to see, though I really only LOVED the last one they featured, Lakisha Jones. She was there with her 3-year-old, and seemed genuinely sweet. Her version of Think was a powerhouse. However, she may wanna consider battening down the hatches on those boobs, cause if she makes it through upcoming rounds, the jumping for joy could send them bouncing straight through TV screens all across America. Texas, the Lone Star State, home of cattle ranchers and ladies with huge hair. Yee haw. I’ve been to San Antonio once, to see the infamous Alamo, which turned out to be a giant disappointment due to the fact that it was smack in the middle of the downtown. Kinda hard to imagine what actually happened there when there’s a hot dog vendor and a dude selling Don’t Mess With Texas ashtrays set up on the sidewalk right in front of the place.
