Oh no! Former American Idol Elliott Yamin miraculously survived Saturday’s shattering earthquake in Chile, but if he has to stay in ravaged region much longer, the diabetic crooner could face a serious health crisis.
Yamin called into Good Day Los Angeles on Tuesday, where the Idol alum revealed that he’s desperately searching for a way out of South America as he runs out of the diabetic supplies that help keep him healthy.
“I am a Type 1 diabetic and I only packed enough insulin supplies for my pump to last a couple more days, so I’m starting to worry. I don’t know how long we’re going to be here. This country isn’t very keen on insulin pumps; supplies for my pump are running low. Hospitals here are very crowded, and as you can imagine, they are dealing with bigger thing,” Elliott explained. “I hope to get home before I slip into a diabetic coma. That would be nice,” he added. “I’m trying to be positive..”

Celebrity gossip Perez Hilton has been vocal about his desire to take over judging duties for mean-mouthed music mogul Simon Cowell when the Brit leaves American Idol this May, and in a press call with The Associated Press on Thursday, Cowell seemed to co-sign Hilton’s campaign. Simon says that Hilton, who has his own music label under Warner Music Group, could be a positive addition to the panel.
“Perez would be funny,” Cowell said. “He’s got good taste in music, he’s got a personality, that could work.”
