And then there were 16. We said farewell to four more semifinalists on American Idol Thursday, and unlike last week, no one really had any a good reason to complain. Getting the boot this week were: college student John Park, 21; Holy Roller Jermaine Sellers, 27; Miami’s own Michelle Delamor, 22; and 16-year-old Haeley Vaughn — who butchered her rendition of Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb.”

Elliott Yamin Trapped In Earthquake-Ravaged Chile With Limited Diabetic Supplies

Oh no! Former American Idol Elliott Yamin miraculously survived Saturday’s shattering earthquake in Chile, but if he has to stay in ravaged region much longer, the diabetic crooner could face a serious health crisis.

Yamin called into Good Day Los Angeles on Tuesday, where the Idol alum revealed that he’s desperately searching for a way out of South America as he runs out of the diabetic supplies that help keep him healthy.

“I am a Type 1 diabetic and I only packed enough insulin supplies for my pump to last a couple more days, so I’m starting to worry. I don’t know how long we’re going to be here. This country isn’t very keen on insulin pumps; supplies for my pump are running low. Hospitals here are very crowded, and as you can imagine, they are dealing with bigger thing,” Elliott explained. “I hope to get home before I slip into a diabetic coma. That would be nice,” he added. “I’m trying to be positive..”

“American Idol” Creator Simon Fuller Debuts Web Series, “If I Can Dream”

If you love the contestant backstories on American Idol, there’s a new seres hitting the Interwebs that may interest you. On Tuesday, Simon Fuller, the creator of a little show called American Idol, debuted “If I Can Dream” on Hulu.com. Think of it as a mashup of Idol meets Big Brother. The show follows five young people — three actors, a musician, and a model — living under one roof and hoping for success in a city of Big Dreams; Hollywood. Their lives are followed not only on the weekly program, but by a daily live stream on ificandream.com as each struggles to accomplish their goals.

If you’re a junkie for celebrity dish, you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for Miley Cyrus’ former flame, one is also featured in the podcast. Cyrus’ ex, singer/songwriter Justin Gaston, is the show’s fifth cast member. Here’s the trailer:

Simon Cowell: “Perez Hilton Could Replace Me On ‘American Idol’”

Celebrity gossip Perez Hilton has been vocal about his desire to take over judging duties for mean-mouthed music mogul Simon Cowell when the Brit leaves American Idol this May, and in a press call with The Associated Press on Thursday, Cowell seemed to co-sign Hilton’s campaign. Simon says that Hilton, who has his own music label under Warner Music Group, could be a positive addition to the panel.

“Perez would be funny,” Cowell said. “He’s got good taste in music, he’s got a personality, that could work.”
