On American Idol Wednesday, mutiplatinum-selling recording artist Alicia Keys urged viewers to donate $5 to help fight the AIDS epidemic in Africa and India by supporting her charity Keep a Child Alive’s new Text ALIVE Challenge.
Alicia serves as global ambassador for the campaign, which aims to bring medicine and medical care to victims of HIV and AIDS living in poverty-stricken nations.
“For us to help people like him in his situation with Keep a Child Alive, and with everyone watching being able to know that, even with all the hardships they might be going through, there’s always someone going through something far worse – so to help someone other than yourself is really a noble thing to do,” the “Fallen” singer told viewers. “It puts everything into perspective… For the cost of probably less than you would spend at Starbucks, you can help someone…..”
