Anger brews as ABC’s Good Morning America forges ahead with a planned appearance by convicted woman beater Chris Brown jut days after cancelling a live performance by another controversial performer —openly gay ex-American Idol Adam Lambert, The New York Post dished in a report on Thursday. The network is invoking the ire of women and gay groups for helping the Rihanna-attacker promote his new album while it canned Lambert’s live show after the glam rocker put on a sexually-charged, homoerotic performance at the 2009 American Music Awards. The Post claims feminist and gay activists are puzzled by the idea that a violent convicted abuser is more morning-show friendly than a gay man.

In two weeks, the “Kiss Kiss” crooner will give a pre-taped tell-all interview to Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts, followed by a performance of songs from his new album, Graffiti, due out December 8.

“The network is giving a mixed message — that it doesn’t trust someone who shocked with an unpredictable show and a gay kiss, but then it is happy to go ahead with Chris Brown, who was convicted of felony assault,” an ABC source told The Post.

However, another network snitch claims critics are talking apples when the subject is oranges, insisting it was not Adam’s sexuality that got him booted from GMA, but rather, the fact that he, “showed himself to be unpredictable on live TV.”

“Chris Brown’s interview was booked way before Adam Lambert took to the stage. It is to give him a chance to respond to Rihanna’s interview. The possibility of him performing a song will be worked out next week.”

“‘The Early Show’s’ decision this morning to blur Adam Lambert’s kiss from the American Music Awards reinforces an unfortunate double standard that is applied to openly gay performers,” Jarrett Barrios, GLAAD’s president, said in the statement Wednesday “I would have hoped CBS would provide the same treatment for images of gay and lesbian people and not create an unfair double standard that treats our community differently.”

Barrios went on to cite other networks’ coverage of the event as being fairer.

“CBS regularly shows kisses throughout every daypart. The kiss was not blurred on ABC nor in news coverage on other networks. While we continue to applaud ‘The Early Show’ for featuring Adam Lambert today, we have reached out to the show’s producers to express our concerns about their decision and offer ways they can make their coverage of gay and transgender people more fair.”

The Advocate is also fuming over the alleged “double standard.”

“I think there’s obviously a double standard when it comes to gay male entertainers,” Jeremy Kinser, the magazine’s Arts and Entertainment Editor, told Extra today. “It’s ridiculous they can show two women but can’t show two men. I think it makes them look kind of silly. That’s what’s so ironic: they decided to put him on after ‘Good Morning America’ canceled him, and they seem really hypocritical to blur the moment that has everybody talking.”

In a statement released late Wednesday, CBS producers explained their reasons for censoring Lambert:
“We gave this some real thought. The Madonna image is very familiar and has appeared countless times including many times on morning television. The Adam Lambert image is a subject of great current controversy, has not been nearly as widely disseminated, and for all we know, may still lead to legal consequences.”

Lambert kissed a male keyboard player, had a dancer simulate oral sex on him, and flipped the audience the finger while performing “For Your Entertainment,” a song with a sexual edge on last weekend’s show. ABC received so many complaints about the performance that the network’s morning show, Good Morning America, cancelled Lambert’s scheduled appearance because it said it couldn’t trust what he would do.

While Adam admits her may have gone a bit overboard, but doubts his performance would not have caused as much controversy if he weren’t openly gay. He also said there were other “adult” moments on the show that caused no outrage.

“I admit I did get carried away, but I don’t see anything wrong with it,” he said Wednesday. “I do see how people got offended and that was not my intention. My intention was to interpret the lyrics of my song and have a good time with it.”

Officials for the straight-laced Parents Television Council were among the 1,500 viewers who complained to ABC about Lambert’s “simulated sex and other demeaning behavior” on the show, but it appears the good has changed its tune. The group’s spokesman, Dan Isett, now insists the network has been too harsh on the talent show sensation.

“I do think it’s a little bit unfortunate… The idea that he should be scrubbed from TV completely is not where we’re going. It may be a bit of an overreaction on ABC’s part.”

Adam will on perform live on CBS’ The Early Show on Wednesday morning.

Not quite the raunchfest we saw at Sunday’s American Music Awards, but disturbing nonetheless. The one-time American Idol crooner releases the video in the middle of a media frenzy over the cancellation of his scheduled performance on Good Morning America Wednesday and an AMA routine which many Americans deemed innappropriate for network television.

ABC is getting payback for Adam Lambert’s simulated sex performance on the American Music Awards: network bosses have pulled the plug on his appearance on Wednesday’s Good Morning America.

“Given his controversial live performance on the ‘AMA’s, we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning,” an ABC News spokeswoman said Tuesday of Lambert’s scheduled Hudson Theater performance. Well, Adam has a thing or two to say about that. Ryan Seacrest spoke to the Idol runner-up — who shocked audiences with a sexually charged performance at Sunday’s show — and man is he one chatty Queen!

Adam on his racy AMA performance: “It’s choreography, we were dancing. The sexuality of it kind of got a little more extreme when I got up on stage. I think the adrenaline kind of took me over, and I admit it, and iIm proud of the fact that I did get a little carried away.”

“I don’t feel I owe anyone an apology for anything. I performed, it was late night TV, I did something that female performers have been doing for years, no different,” Adam added. “It’s just the fact that I’m me and it’s a little different for people. It’s really not that big of a deal.”

It’s too bad, I think there were a lot of fans who were excited to come see me,” Adam remarked. “They probably had a lot of pressure coming at them from certain people who weren’t happy about it. I respect their decision – I don’t necessarily agree with it, but they need to do what they need to do.”

Adam will now bring his raunch-fest to audiences of The Early Show tomorrow.

Breaking News: Adam Lambert’s performance on Good Morning America, scheduled for Wednesday, has been cancelled by ABC after the singer’s racy performace at the network’s American Music Awards on Sunday night.

“Given his controversial American Music Awards performance, we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning,” an ABC News spokeswoman said in a statement Tuesday. The American Idol alum came under fire this week after he turned out a raunchy show-stopping performance, filled with simulated blowjobs and male-on-male liplocks at the annual AMA. On Monday, ABC revealed that it has received 1,500 complaints from viewers taken aback by Adam’s R-rated stage show.

Adam — a self-professed glam rocker — performed on GMA as part of the show’s summer concert series last August. The ex-Idol also took the stage on the Late Show With David Letterman Monday night.

Lambert will, however, be performing live on CBS’ The Early Show tomorrow. He will also discuss his controversial moment at the American Music Awards.

Adam Lambert’s controversial performance at the 2009 American Music Awards was edited for the West Coast feed of the awards show. But even before ABC censored the AMA’s most buzzed about performance, the American Idol singer told Access Hollywood that he felt censoring his performance would be akin to “discrimination.” Adam’s racy performance of his debut single “For Your Entertainment” — during which he simulated fellatio with a male dancer, flipped off the audience, and kissed male keyboardist Tommy Ratliff, who is straight — has been garnering headlines all morning.

The “Glam Rocker” just doesn’t get what all the fuss is about.

“You know honestly, if I offended some people… it’s apples and oranges. I’m not an artist that does things for every single person,” Adam told Access’ Shaun Robinson backstage.

“If it’s edited, that’s discrimination,” the singer explained. “I will be a little disappointed because there is a little bit of discrimination going in this country. There’s a big double standard, female pop artists have been doing things provocative like that for years, and the fact that I’m a male, and I’ll be edited and discriminated against could be a problem.”

He continued: “I believe in artistic freedom and expression, I believe in honoring the lyrics of a song, and those lyrics aren’t really for everybody either.”

Early Monday morning, the singer thanked his fans for their support, writing on Twitter: “All hail freedom of expression and artistic integrity…fans: I adore u.”

The star brought some raunchy to the stage during his performance of “For Your Entertainment,” the first single from his album of the same name. The number featured the openly-gay singer dragging a female backup dancer by the leg, simulating a blow job with a male dancer, making out with a male keyboardist, and flipping off the audience.

The racy performance appeared to have been too much for ABC; the during some portions of the performance, the camera cut away from Adam’s moves during the East Coast broadcast. And at least one nowhere-near-bashful star had to turn off the TV — The View’s Sherri Shepherd, who Tweeted: “Did Adam Lambert just grind some dude’s head in his crotch…. TO MY NIECE… GO TO BED NOW!”

“And did Adam Lambert slip the tongue to one of his dancers???? Whoa… Celibate woman here… turning off t.v. now… somebody else recap.”
