2011 Academy Awards Ratings Among Lowest In Decade

So much for chic and modern!

The ratings for Sunday night’s 2011 Oscars are in and the news isn’t what the Academy of Motion Picture Film Sciences was expecting. As it turns out, Academy Award co-hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway failed to lift ratings for the 83rd annual ceremony.

Corey Haim Oscars In Memoriam Snub

Notice anyone missing from last night’s In Memoriam Oscars Tribute?

Each year, the Academy of Motion Picture & Film Sciences pays tribute to the work of late Hollywood stars who passed away in the preceding year. And each year, it seems some dearly departed film idol is left lost in the sauce in a sometimes glaring omission from the In Memorian reel. In 2010, former Charlie’s Angels actress Farrah Fawcett got the snub treatment. At Sunday’s 83rd Annual Academy Awards, it was trouble-prone actor Corey Haim, star of ’80s teen classics like The Lost Boys and License to Drive, who was a forgotten man.

2011 Academy Awards Winners List

All Hail The King! The critic-favored The King’s Speech beat out Facebook drama The Social Network and animated hit Toy Story 3 to take home the coveted Best Picture Oscar at Sunday night’s Academy Award. In total, royal British drama picked up a total of four Oscars as Hollywood celebrated film’s biggest night, hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco.

Colin Firth won the Academy Award on Sunday for his lead role as stammering wartime monarch King George VI in the flick. Filmmaker Tom Hooper won the Academy Award for directing The King’s Speech. Other big Oscar winners include Christian Bale, who clocked his first Best Supporting Actor trophy for playing a drug-addicted former boxer in The Fighter, and a heavily-pregnant Natalie Portman, the potential latest victim of the “Best Actress Curse” after winning for her emotionally-disturbed ballerina in Black Swan.
