Miss California has gone to Washington to help launch a campaign opposing same-sex marriage.
On Thursday, Carrie Prejean — also known as “Fake Jugs-a-Poppin’” — told NBC’s Matt Lauer that she’ll be working with the National Organization for Marriage to “protect traditional marriages.”
The 21-year-old says that marriage is “something that is very dear to my heart” and she’s in Washington to help save it.
Carrie was named the first runner-up to Miss North Carolina in the Miss USA pageant in Las Vegas on April 19. The beauty queen believes her response to celebrity blogger Perez Hilton’s question about legalizing same-sex marriage may have cost her the title.

In an interview with celebrity journalist Billy Bush on Wednesday, Miss USA 1995 Shana Moakler, Co-Executive Director of the Miss California Organization, confirmed that the group paid for Miss California Carrie Prejean’s breast implants just six weeks before she competed in the 2009 Miss USA pageant earlier this month. Miss North Carolina USA Kristen Dalton was crowned Miss USA 2009 this weekend, beating out 50 other beauties in the live pageant televised from Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on Sunday.
In August, the 21-year-old aspiring motivational speaker will travel to the Bahamas to compete in the Miss Universe pageant.
