Despite a Sunday afternoon blaze just yards away at Universial Studios Hollywood, it was entertainment as usual the 17th Annual MTV Movie Awards live from LA’s Gibson Amphitheater last night. Actor Johnny Depp took home a Best Comedic Performance trophy for his role as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and a Best Villain honor for his Golden Globe-winning performance in the dark musical Sweeney Todd. Tom Cruise, who celebrates twenty-five years since the release his Breakout performance in the 1983 film Risky Business, was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The 2008 MTV Movies Awards will air live from Hollywood on Sunday night, and singing burlesque troupe The Pussycat Dolls will be on hand to perform their new single “When I Grow Up.” The track will be featured on the girls’ forthcoming sophomore LP, in stores everywhere this Fall.
