Cate Blanchett Playing Lucile Ball In A Biopic Written By Aaron Sorkin
This project sounds like the ultimate match made in heaven. Academy Award winning actress Cate Blanchett is set to play famed actress and comedian Lucille Ball in a biopic written by Aaron Sorkin.
For the first time ever, Lucille Ball’s children will be behind a biopic about their mother’s life. According to Variety, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr. will produce the biopic that will be written by Aaron Sorkin.
As of right now Aaron Sorkin is in talks to write the script. The biopic will tell the story of Lucy’s 20-year marriage to Desi Arnaz, which has always been gossiped about, even after their divorce. The two married in 1940 and then created the successful sitcom I Love Lucy, which was loosely based on their personas. I Love Lucy was created in 1951 and Ball went on to win four Emmys.
Back in 2013 Cate Blanchett had this to say about staying power in Hollywood. “Maybe it has come out of the model of actresses who move between film, television and the theatre in England. There are so many actresses – you think about Helen Mirren, Judi Dench or Maggie Smith – who’ve had such rich careers in all mediums. They have forged those careers because they have not stopped at any point in taking risks and trying something new. People love working with them.”
As for Lucy Ball, this won’t be the first time someone has took on the legend. In 2003 the TV movie Lucy was released, as that also focused on her relationship with Desi. That said, we’re not sure if the Arnaz’s are going to show such a tumultuous look at the couple. Back in 2003 Rachel York played Lucy while Danny Pino played Desi Arnaz. It’s not known who will take on the role of Desi.
Although much isn’t known about the current production, everyone seems to have an opinion about seeing Blanchett and Sorkin collaborate together.
@EW Interesting choice. I would have thought Debra Messing.

As film news goes, “Cate Blanchett to star in Lucille Ball biopic” is excitingly baffling. Why did they have to add “by Aaron Sorkin” to it?

@TheInSneider perhaps Sorkin will visit my home town of Jamestown/Celeron New York to experience Lucy’s life there.
