Cate Blanchett Head Injury
Cate Blanchett has suffered a head injury during a botched fight scene in The Sydney Theatre Company’s production of A Streetcar Named Desire, The Sydney Morning Herald has learned.
The show was cancelled on Tuesday after Blanchett, who is playing Blanche DuBois, began bleeding profusely from the head after she was hit by a prop — reportedly a radio — tossed across stage by her co-star.
”He was supposed to throw [the radio] out the window, but it sort of slipped and hit her in the head… she was so good, she just went straight on,” an onlooker recalls.
A second audience member tells AFP: “She had blood streaming down the back of her head and blood on the back of her neck. She acted for about another 30 seconds, then ran into what we thought was the next scene, but before we knew it the lights were turned on and we were told there were technical difficulties and everyone had to evacuate the Sydney Theatre Company.”
Cate’s rep ensures fans that the star is doing fine and will most likely perform in tonight’s show.
