Gender tests carried out on middle-distance runner Caster Semenya have revealed that the 800-meter world champion is a hermaphrodite, a source close to the investigation claims.

Taken aback by her appearance, the tests were ordered by The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) after Semenya’s 800-meter victory in the World Championships. Physical evidence has revealed that she has no womb or ovaries and carries both male and female sex organs, according to a report in Sydney’s Daily Telegraph.

The IAAF is considering stripping Caster of the gold medal she earned at last month’s World Championships in Berlin and disqualifying the 18-year-old South African from future events. The newspaper also reported that she will be advised to have surgery to fix the potentially deadly condition.

Caster has been celebrated with pride in her home country, where locals refer to the teen as “Our Girl.”

Just this week, she appeared in her first magazine cover after receiving a feminine makeover.

“God made me the way I am and I accept myself. I am who I am and I’m proud of myself,” Caster told You Magazine.

Should Caster be allowed to keep her medal?
