Carrie Underwood has recorded a remake of Motley Crue’s “Home Sweet Home” to be played as a farewell ballad to each finalist sent home on the eighth season of American Idol, FOX announced on Monday.

The song will debut on Idol this Wednesday March 11, and will be available exclusively on iTunes until March 16. After that, the single will be available through all online music retailers.

Because Carrie, Idol Season 4 champ, is a devoted animal lover, a portion of the sales proceeds from “Home Sweet Home” will benefit The Humane Society of the United States.

“I’ve always loved this song, and besides being fitting for ‘Idol’, to me, the title is also very fitting with animal rescue and finding animals their own homes,” Carrie said in a statement Monday. “So we felt it was important to tie the release into an amazing animal charity like the HSUS.”

Oh, dear God, no. Add this to Sheryl Crow’s rendition of Sweet Child O’ Mine as unnecessary and unpleasant covers.

Home Sweet Home was my “teen angst” song, and has always been near to my heart. When I heard that it was being recorded by Carrie Underwood, I was floored.

However. having said that, and having just listened to her version for the first time, I have to honestly say that she did a good job. She sang it with the emotion that made it appealing in the first place.

dude, i LOVED it!!! she has such a great voice and can do any song that she wants to, and actually do better than the person or band that made and performed the song first. Carrie rocks!! Jen, you suck and she had a great version, so suck it!
