Star Wars star Carrie Fisher is inching closer to that Princess Leia bikini.
The When Harry Met Sally actress is down 30 pounds, just in time for summer, after signing on as a Jenny Craig celebrity spokesmodel in November.
“I’m fat. All the clothes in my closet belong to another chick. They have to make a new alphabet for my bra size,” the “Wishful Drinking” star said in January. “If I lose 10 pounds, it’ll be a miracle. If I lose 30, my outside would match my inside.”
Fisher rocketed to fame playing Princess Leia in George Lucas’ 1977 sci-fi epic, but over the years, she and her waistline quickly fell out of favor. When her father, ’50s singer Eddie Fisher, died in Sept. 2010, Carrie turned to Haagen-Dazs ice cream for comfort. We blogging folk didn’t help Carrie much as she struggled to accept her so-called frumpy form. She’s still able summon tears when she recalls some of the biting criticism her appearance received on blogs and online message boards. (Looks to the left. Looks to the right. Wasn’t me!)
“I look on the Internet and they say, ‘Whatever happened to Carrie Fisher? She used to be so hot and now she looks like Elton John. I was really hurt.”
Well, Carrie is Elton no longer! Fisher will be showing off her hew figure during the summer tour of her hit Wishful Drinking stage show. The fun kicks off in Toronto on July 21. And she’s not done losing weight. The actress-comedienne has reset her goal to lose even more.
“Before Jenny Craig, I had tried and failed with so many diets, so losing any amount of weight seemed crazy to me. … With this weight loss, it’s like a whole new Carrie has emerged,” Fisher said this week. “I no longer want to hide in the house.”
Other Jenny Craig spokespeople include Valerie Bertinelli, Queen Latifah, Phylicia Rashad, Sara Rue, Nicole Sullivan, Kirstie Alley (OK! Bad example…), and Jason Alexander.
