Its a capitalism vs socialism debate…

If it was all socialism, then the companies wouldnt be so cheap…

“if it were all socialism” then the companies (like the last) wouldn’t provide any safety equipment or training at all. Much less be punished for breaking the rules (however minimally they are punished in a capitalist system).

There are no accidents…every one of those incidents were brought on by human intervention…if spills were cleaned up no slips, the guy on the fork lift driving safely he wouldn’t have hit the pipe rack, the girl on the ladder would have practice ladder safety protocols she wouldn’t have leaned out too far and fallen, if the guy would have cut off the torch no explosion..yet companies pay hundreds of millions of dollars a year for disability and workers comp for these “accidents” that were the employees mistakes…

I can’t possibly disagree more with Brian C. As a PM for a mid-size construction company, I have seen first hand how putting all of the onus for safety onto the employee is unfair and dangerous.

People make mistakes. It’s an irrefutable fact. The job of a company is to ensure the workplace is set up to minimize the consequences of those mistakes. Human nature is to “get it done”, often at the cost of following protocol, and therefore safety.

I’m not saying the employees carry none of the burden. Far from it. With proper training, as well as watching out for each other, they hold the key to minimizing incidents.

But it is up to the company to both ensure they are providing the employees with all the equipment and training necessary, as well as enforcing a strict safety policy. Without that, “employee mistakes” are everyone’s responsibility.

These PSA’s are brilliant, by the way.

    And capitalism vs. socialism? WTF?
