The younger brother of actress Salma Hayek was behind the wheel during a fatal car crash that left a 43-year-old man dead.

Sami Hayek, 40, was reportedly speeding his 2006 Ford GT, worth a cool $165,000, down Los Angeles’ Sunset Boulevard Monday afternoon, when he lost control and crashed into a Toyota Tacoma pickup. His passenger, Ian Cuttler Sala — a high-profile photographer and Grammy Award-winning art director — died at the scene.

“It’s sad — he died even though he was wearing a seat belt,” Los Angeles County Coroner’s Lt. Fred Corral told People.

Hayek was taken to hospital with several broken ribs, as was the driver of the pickup, 20-year-old Alvin Javier Gomez. He suffered a broken foot in the crash.
