Brittany Murphy “Deadline” Cover Removed From Redbox Kiosks
The morbid cover image for Brittany Murphy’s film psychological thriller Deadline will be removed from DVD distributor Redbox’s kiosks in the wake of the star’s stunning death over the weekend.
(Sidebar: Out of respect for Brittany’s loved ones and at the urging of a few PopCrunchers readers, I’m not going to post the Deadline cover here. However, if you would like to take a look at it, just click here……)
In Deadline — a hit at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival — Brittany plays Alice, a screenwriter who travels to an abandoned house to finish a script on time. However, a series of strange happenings in the home drive the depressed woman to a psychological breakdown.
The cover image features a nearly-lifeless Brittany, 32, sinking in a bathtub. Some variations of the cover art even include blood. The likeness is a little too close to reality for some fans of the late star, who died of a suspected heart attack after collapsing in her bathroom on Sunday.
“Redbox feels removing the ‘Deadline’ box art is the appropriate course of action following the star’s recent death,” a Redbox spokesperson said in a statement to Access Hollywood Wednesday. “We will continue to carry her film, but will remove the film’s box art from our displays.”
The image will be removed from kiosk touch screens and the Redbox website by Thursday and all displays before the end of the month.
