Britney Spears has sparked rumors of a sleeping disorder after she was photographed with an open purse containing a box of the prescription medicine Provigil. Provigil is a drug prescribed mainly for the treatment of narcolepsy.

Provigil is described as: “a medication to treat excessive sleepiness caused by certain sleep disorders. These sleep disorders are narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome, and shift work sleep disorder.”

OK! Magazine claims some doctors have prescribed the drug for treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, to enhance the brain’s cognitive ability, and experimentally to treat addiction to cocaine.
