Britney Spears has been reunited with her recently estranged mother, Lynne Spears.

“Brit really needed her mom,” a source tells PEOPLE, “So Lynne flew out and they met.”

Lynne and Britney’s sister Jamie Lynn flew from Kentwood, La., to Los Angeles on Friday evening.

“It was Britney’s brother, Bryan, who helped get Brit and her mother speaking. He could see that his mom was upset and that Britney was in need. So he encouraged Lynne to reach out, and the most amazing thing happened: Britney responded!”
