With the Summer of 2011 now a not so distant memory, Music Bibles Rolling Stone and Billboard are taking a look back at the tunes that had us nodding our heads and singing along to the beat in the sweltering heat.
Rolling Stone readers (aka The same people who voted “Macarena” one of the worst songs of the ’90s@) have voted Britney Spears’ “I Wanna Go” as the song of the summer! By comparison, Billboard is christening LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” the season’s official anthem. After a lengthy run at the top of the iTunes chart and 2.8 million downloads, Billboard says the electro-pop-dance track — featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock — deserves the top spot on its “Songs of the Summer” round up. The listing ranks the overall performance of hit songs on the Billboard Hot 100 between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Check out how the Top 5 rounded out:
2.) Pitbull — “Give Me Everything”
3.) Adele — “Rolling in the Deep”
4.) Nicki Minaj — “Super Bass”
5.) Katy Perry — “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”
