Now that her one-night stand as a country crooner has gone belly up, we hear “Come On Over” star Jessica Simpson is hoping to return to her small screen roots with a starring role on a new sitcom.

We don’t know about you, but we say they leave Laverne & Shirley out of this….

The former star of MTV’s Newlyweds has approached Britney Spears with the idea of the blondes teaming up for a buddy comedy, similar to the beloved ’70s series Laverne & Shirley, The Globe reports.

“Britney seems genuinely interested in working with her. She’s said they’ll talk further when she finishes her Circus Tour,” says an industry exec, who spoke on the condition of anonmity.

Brit is especially interested in the proposed series after her successful two episode run as “Abby The Receptionist” on CBS’s How I Met Your Mother last winter.

“And Jessica wants to prove to the world that she’s a talented, funny actress, not just some silly airhead.”

Maybe they can add Ken Paves to the mix and make it a modern day Three’s Company?
