The Speares hit the roof as Brit and Linds hit the gossip pages earlier this month; the girls were photographed enjoying a live show at Grand Star Jazz in L.A.’s Chinatown on August 5. Britney has been on her best behavior in the months since suffering an nearly career-ending emotional breakdown, but the star’s handlers are fearful all her hard work could evaporate in a cloud of cigarette smoke if she continues keeping company with the often-troubled Lohan.

“Lindsay’s the pied-piper of partying, so it’s no wonder Britney family was freaked,” a Spears Family spy reveals in the Aug. 24 issue of The National Enquirer. “The last thing Britney needs in her life right now is a friend who lives on the edge.”
