Britney Spears “A Streetcar Named Desire” Casting Opposition

Directors on Britain’s West End are rallying against the casting of Britney Spears as Blanche DuBois in a revival of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire. Director Brian Timoney, whose produced Williams’ The Pink Bedroom for the UK’s famed theater district, says the playwright would be “turning in his grave” if the pop tart landed a role in his play.
“He would be livid. It is an outrage,” Timoney told Britain’s Daily Mail on Sunday. “Just because Britney has had similar life experiences does not mean she has the skills and capability to play what was one of his most complex characters….Even accomplished actresses struggle to do the character’s great depth justice. She would not have got through the door at the auditions for my production.”
