Who says celebrity dish is a sin? Watching a popstar meltdown is good for the economy. According to newly released financial figures, Britney Spears is worth a whopping $120 million a year to the US economy, with record companies, perfume makers, and Pepsi cashing in on the pop trainwreck.

Jive Records pulled in $400 million worth of record sales since Britney made her singing debut in 1999. Elizabeth Arden earns $100 million for Britney’s fragrances, Believe, Curious, and Fantasy.

Tabloids featuring a Britney Spears cover grossed $360 million in 2007.

X17 will pay out $100,000 for a good shot of Britney. The photo agency claims her pictures account for thirty percent of their total annual revenue. In 2007, X17 says they sold $2.5 million worth of Britney Spears.

In fact, photos of Britney Spears account for twenty percent of the paparzzi business.
