Bristol Palin, the 18-year-old daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, is speaking out for the first time about becoming a single mother at just 17 as part of a national campaign to help raise awareness about teen pregnancy prevention.
Bristol, who is the mother of a 5-month-old boy named Tripp, has been appointed as a Teen Ambassador for The Candie’s Foundation. The teen now identifies with her mother’s famed “No Sex Before Marriage” stance.
“Regardless of what I did personally, I just think that abstinence is the only … 100 percent foolproof way to prevent pregnancy.”
In the months since Tripp’s birth last December 27, Bristol has separated from the child’s father, another 18-year-old named Levi Johnston. Levi, as you may have heard, has spent the past month blasting Bristol and the rest of the Palin Family for what he calls their hypocrisy and a continued failure to allow him to see his son.
“If I can prevent even one girl from getting pregnant, I will feel a sense of accomplishment,” Bristol told TODAY’s Matt Lauer in an interview this morning. But when the anchor quizzed her about her fractured relationship with Levi, Bristol replied, “I’m not here to talk about my personal life….”
Bristol Palin will participate in a town hall meeting on teen pregnancy in New York City on Wednesday.

I feel so sorry for Bristol. Doesn’t she have a voice of her own? She talks about saving other girls heartache, but she won’t elaborate how. She isn’t really using the events of her life to change anythin; she’s not willing to discuss them openly.
