Governor Palin is a grandma.

The daughter of former Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, who announced her pregnancy during the campaign this fall, gave birth to her first child on Sunday, People Magazine reports.

Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston, weighed in at 7 lbs. 4 oz. and was born in Palmer, Alaska.

Bristol is currently finishing up her high school diploma via correspondence courses, while her fiance, Levi Johnston, is working to become an electrician.

“Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents,” Governor Palin and husband Todd Palin said in a statement Monday. “Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family.”
