Bridget Jones Widowed Mother-of-Two in New Novel
It looks like Bridget Jones is back on the market.
Spoilers After the Jump!
Excerpts from the third Bridget Jones book Mad About the Boy, published in Britain’s Sunday Times over the weekend, reveal that Jones’ aloof soulmate Mark Darcy has been killed off.
The new book is being released 15 years after the last novel in the saga. Readers find Bridget 51-year-old mother of two obsessed with wrinkles and without her Darcy, who perished in a car accident five years earlier.
The plot takes the older Bridget Jones down the social media path, where she manages to find a new boyfriend. Bridget is navigating the murky dating waters with Roxster, a 30-year-old boytoy she met over Twitter.
Helen Fielding began the Bridget Jones series as a British newspaper column in 1995. Bridget, a typical London thirtysomething, struck a chord with women of the ’90s. The two-book series went on to sell 15 million copies and were eventually turned into a Hollywood film franchise, starring Renee Zellweger as Bridget and Colin Firth as the quiet Darcy.
The new spoilers have hit Bridget fans hard; readers flocked to Twitter Monday to mourn their beloved Darcy.
