‘Black Mass’ Trailer Showcases Johnny Depp As Whitey Bulger, Already One Of His Best Roles [Watch]
Black Mass could salvage Johnny Depp from his latest box office flops. The film looks to be nothing short of amazing and along with Depp, the film boasts a stellar cast.
The new film could also remind fans of the last time he played legendary gangster John Dillinger in Public Enemies and if the preview tells us anything, this film is going to be even better. It tells the true story of Whitey Bulger, a crime boss who simultaneously worked as an FBI informant and committed horrible crimes throughout the Boston area for decades.
It is been a while since fans have seen a great performance from Johnny Depp, but it certainly looks like his role as Whitey Bulger will be one of them. He is unrecognizable with a different hairdo and makeup as the notorious gangster and we can’t wait to see even more.
Black Mass is both written and directed by Scott Cooper, who has proven to have success before, although he is still not as known as most directors. He has previously directed the Oscar-nominated Crazy Heart, Out Of The Furnace and this will be his third time getting behind the camera.
Johny Depp is chilling in the role already with his voice and tone, also promising a great amount of action while spotlighting one of the most notorious gangsters in the history of the United States.
In addition to Johnny Depp, the film boasts an unbelievably large number of stars that includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Bacon, Dakota Johnson, Juno Temple, Corey Stoll, Peter Sarsgaard, Jesse Plemons, and even a dramatic turn for Parks and Recreation star Adam Scott.
Black Mass is sure to be a hit when it comes to theaters simply based on the star power that is involved and perhaps it could help revive the great gangster genre that seems to have died out in recent years. Gangster films such as Goodfellas and The Untouchables always seemed to have better dialogue and more stylized action than the modern action films, not relying on explosions all the time in order to be popular.
