Hannah Montana may have made his daughter Miley a household name, but Billy Ray Cyrus says the hit show cost him his happy family life.
And it’s comments like that that have gotten the “Achy Breaky Heart” hitmaker on the outs with a now 18-year-old Miley. The teen superstar has reportedly forced Billy Ray to cancel an appearance on ABC’s The View this week, just days after he attracted headling by comparing her to Anna Nicole Smith in a interview with the March issue of GQ Magazine.
“I hate to say it, but… I’d take it back in a second,” he told the mag in an article titled The Damn Show Destroyed My Family. “For my family to be here and just be everybody okay, safe and sound and happy and normal, would have been fantastic. Heck, yeah. I’d erase it all in a second if I could.”
He said that after the first two seasons of Hannah Montana his marriage to Miley’s mom Tish was unraveling and he began to feel he was growing apart from his suddenly-famous daughter.
“The business was driving a wedge between us. I should have been a better parent. “
Miley, who we hear is no longer accepting her father’s calls, had “Her People” tell Billy Ray that if he went through with plans to spill his guts to Babs Walters & Co. on the morning gabfest Wednesday, he could forget about ever reconciling with her.
“When Miley found out her father was scheduled to appear on ‘The View’ on Wednesday she went nuts,” a Cyrus Family insider divulged to PopEater’s Naughty But Nice Column this week. “Only last week, Billy shot his mouth off in GQ, and now he planned to sit down with [Barbara and Whoopi] and talk more crap about his family. No way would Miley or her team let that happen.”
Reps for Billy Ray have confirmed that the singer’s press tour to The Big Apple, including tomorrow’s visit to The View, have been scrapped. At least for now.
