Billy Donovan has proved his worth on the sideline of college basketball and now he is taking his expertise to the NBA as the new coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Thunder have wasted no time in finding their new coach after firing Scott Brooks. Brooks was fired just over a week ago after the Oklahoma City Thunder failed to make the playoffs, but the team was filled with injuries all season including Kevin Durant and even Russell Westbrook for part of it and it was said that the decision was not made in response to the current season.
Donovan has been the coach of the Florida Gators for the past 19 seasons, leading them to multiple national champions with current NBA stars such as Joakim Noah and Cory Brewer. Prior to his time at Florida, he coached at Marshall for two seasons.

Billy Donovan compiled a record of a 467-186 record with two national championships, six regular season Southeastern Conference titles, and four conference tournament titles.
He was rumored to be the new coach of the Thunder recently and he has been hired already. The team has plenty of talent to work with and there is no doubt that the legendary college coach would fit well with the team.

Coaches often do not have a lot of success in their first year, but there is no telling what Donovan could accomplish in his first season with the Thunder since he has plenty of experience. Jason Kidd is in his first season as the coach of the Milwaukee Bucks and had a major turnaround with the team, on the verge of possibly entering the second round of the playoffs.
Billy Donovan is considered one of the best coaches in college basketball and this is not the first time that he has been offered a job in the NBA. However, before he had a much better team at Florida, and perhaps this is the right time to move on.
