Billy Corgan, frontman of the Grammy-winning rock band The Smashing Pumpkins, is recovering this afternoon after the rocker blacked out and collapsed onstage during a concert in Tampa, Florida this week.
The frightening fall came Wednesday evening, as Corgan performed the band’s hit “Bullet With Butterfly Wings.” Despite his tumble, the resilient Corgan — romantically-linked to Jessica Simpson and Tila Tequila — came to just moments later and insisted continuing with his set, belting out 11 more songs.
“For those that saw me fall last night … that wasn’t a stage move or clumsiness, that was me blacking out and wiping out,” Corgan, 43, Tweeted Thursday. “I have no memory of falling against the drum riser and my guitar cabinet, but I can tell you I’ve got quite a good bruise + am moving slow.”
The Smashing Pumpkins is currently touring the US to promote their latest album, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope.
Despite his fall, the singer appears to be on the mend. Billy and the rest of the Pumpkins are scheduled to play Knoxville, Tennessee tonight.
