Billboard Magazine Most Popular Albums Of 2007; ‘Daughtry’ Named Most Popular Album of 2007

Chris Daughtry’s elimination from American Idol was a shocker, but he who laughs last laughs hardest-or something like that! DAUGHTRY, the former reality-show contestant’s breakout CD has gone on to become the Most Popular Album of the Year, according to Billboard Magazine. The band’s self-titled debut has sold 3.2 million copies.
Rounding out the Top Five Albums of 2007 are:
• Akon, Konvicted, with 2.7 million
• Fergie, The Dutchess, with 2.4 million
• The Hannah Montana soundtrack, with 2.5 million
• Carrie Underwood, Some Hearts, with 2.3 million
Beyonce’s ”Irreplaceable” was the No. 1 single of the year and Rihanna’s ”Umbrella” were christened “Top Two Singles Of The Year.” Both have been nominated for a Grammy for record of the year. Rounding out the top five was Gwen Stefani at No. 3 with ”The Sweet Escape,” Fergie’s ”Big Girls Don’t Cry” at No. 4, and T-Pain’s ”Buy U A Drank (Shawty Snappin’)” at No. 5.
The Police’s reunion tour was named the top tour of the year, grossing at least $212 million.
